FIRE LOSS:

On Sunday morning, December 2nd at 2AM, our storage Tiki burned completely to the ground, destroying all of our tools and a large majority of our equipment. Luckily the fire was contained and did not spread to adjacent buildings.

It took two years for DRC to recover and replace these items when they were swept away by Hurricane Wilma and only about half an hour for us to lose them all over again. Regrettably, the insurance only partially covers this loss because the Tiki was deemed an ‘out building’ which has limited coverage. In order to once again rebuild our equipment supply and be able to maintain our grounds, buildings and other facilities, we’re facing a potential cost of $50,000; an amount we can’t readily afford.

You can help us replace the building and tools that were destroyed. We’ve struggled in the weeks since the fire to maintain the buildings and grounds at Dolphin Research Center. Image trying to keep everything in repair and presentable without the necessary tools! Your contribution will go a long way in helping us restore our much needed materials so we can keep DRC functioning!

FILL THE FISH FREEZER :

Imagine having to order all the food your family eats for the entire year just once a year.  Now picture how big a check you would have to write to cover that bill.  Add the fact that all the food is trucked down the United States eastern seaboard with a fuel surcharge tacked onto the cost and you can see the challenge DRC faces.  Your donation of $50 or more will go a long way to help cover the costs to feed our dolphin and sea lion family.

This year we will need $100,000 to procure fish for our growing pod of dolphins and sea lions.  That is a 20% increase over last year’s cost.  As a good friend of DRC we are hoping that you will help us mitigate this additional expense.  Thanks to the generous support of our new Chairman of the Board, Peter Lappin, your contribution will be matched for the first $5,000 so every dollar you send will be doubled.

A safe and healthy source of food is very important to the longevity and strength of the entire family; especially with the addition of three new babies.  All three babies have begun eating!  Proper nutrition for maturing babies is particularly important to their future wellbeing and proper growth!

Members of DRC have always generously responded to special situations that help create the best possible care for the DRC dolphins.  For example, without the help of members like you, the new freezer would not have been possible.  Thank you.  Regardless of what Mother Nature has in store for us, we now have a safe and secure storage facility that is built to endure.

WALKWAY PAVERS :

DRC is creating a unique walkway that extends from our entrance over 400 feet to our dolphins' lagoons. You can include your personal message in our walk of fame for a donation of $100. ($50 each for additional pavers.) You’ll receive a special certificate and a one year membership which includes a subscription to our bi-monthly Dolphin Society newsletter, quarterly Gray Cross newsletters with updates on our manatee rescue program, and a membership card to use for free admission throughout the year for up to four family members. (Additional membership are not included with $50 pavers.)
